1.  Fascinating Treatment to make your Belts last 10x longer!

I was searching for a way to make belts last longer.

One of my long term strategies has always been to take tips, techniques, and technologies from other industries and apply them to ours.
The automotive industry is one of my favorites, but this strategy also applies to advertising techniques, management, etc.
In short, THINK OUTSIDE THE LAUNDROMAT BOX!

Now I have already been using Name Brand Automotive belts for years in place of the belts offered by so many of our parts suppliers (our manufacturers do offer quality OEM belts, but they tend to be overpriced, imo).\
I recently came upon a few automotive videos saying the same thing....to treat the belts first with a protectant that seals the rubber to prevent it from drying out.
If you've been in this business long enough, you may have found that you've received brand new belts that were already dried out because they were sitting on your supplier's shelf too long.
This technique cannot fix belts that are already dry. This is about prevention from drying out.

If this treatment actually works like they say, it is amazing, and it's not just this one guy in this video. If you search youtube, you will see very similar techniques, sometimes using the same brand protectant that this guy uses.

The short amount of time/work in sealing your belts could very well save you FAR more time. For instance, if you have a belt that normally lasts you 3 years, could it be possible that the belt would last 30 years???
Probably not, due to other components that could fail, such as the rayon cords, but still....this could be a game changer.

PS - You can buy the 303 uv sealant in a spray bottle which is cheaper than buying a whole gallon, but I sort of like the idea of soaking the belts.

Paulie B,

Good potential it seems for the pre-treatment suggestion.  Especially in combination of making sure that parts suppliers don't substitute an imperial belt when a tiny bit thicker metric is the proper match for the original washer's metric pulleys.  That slight mm or inch fraction difference can make major headaches later in the form of a gradual premature groove worn in ... especially the smaller motor pulley.  A premature groove that can cause mysterious loud noises from hard to detect slippage etc.  Maybe with the gradual ramp up with the fancy new VFD controlled motors it is less of an issue though.  IMHO the jury is still out on how much was actually gained with the vfds vs the old trusty 2 speed Elmos.  The slower speed on the Elmo also has way less amp-watt usage so it was quite a energy saving leap from the old single speed washer motors with transmissions ... the early Bendix-Dexters etc.

Riddle me this. How do you think this would apply to door gaskets? I am guessing it would make them easier to install? Do you think shoe strings would pull out easier? Thus avoiding some massive water clean ups?
