Mike:  Thanks for asking.  Redding CA and the surrounding areas were hit hard with the Carr Fire storm.  Lots of smoke and ash is falling local and has been blown for miles and miles away.  Every property we own in the area has coats of ash and smoke, but none have been burned.  Lots of work to do to get back to ground zero but with no injuries or loss of property, we are nothing but grateful.  So many small businesses for miles around struggling with the immediate and ripple affects of this monster fire storm.

For the LMat specific property, our LMat and 7 other tenants were evacuated and had no access to the property for about a week.  While I headed down to the LMat as soon as I heard about the evacuation, it was too late as all access was shut down by the time I arrived.  Accordingly, our swamp coolers were working overtime inviting all the smoke inside.  So once we were able to gain access, We:

    *  Shut down and covered the Swamp Coolers and installed 3 each portable AC units to help clean the air and keep the place above swelter.  Did immediate basic once over clean up in and out.
    *  Contacted  Redding Coin Laundry, the company that maintains our equipment, and they expedited a crew to come over and go thru all the W-D-Vending machines in and out to clean them up and check them out.
    *  Contacted a contractor to come in Saturday to replace 1,500 SF of drop ceiling tile and clean up the lighting fixtures (they have to cover all the equipment etc). and clean and replace the filters on the Swamp Coolers.
    *  Working to schedule a power wash team to clear the roof, walks and parking of ash and soot Saturday and Sunday ,
    *  Set up the carpet cleaning service to come in Monday.  Wipe down all the surfaces again.
    *  Check the air quality and decide whether to open on Tuesday.
    *  Go thru the substantial list of other items that need to be addressed with our insurance company and follow up thru the completion of all the work.

    Ditto for the other properties.

Seth operates Launderland in Anderson and pitched in with Redding Coin Laundry to help expedite the equipment clean up and inspection...much appreciated Seth !

The Carr Fire storm can be checked online...it's an extremely dangerous and deadly fire with life lost and hundreds of homes burnt and counting.  The community has come together with adjacent communities and there are non stop efforts to accommodate the families and animals displaced by the fire.  Everyone's thoughts and prayers are needed and appreciated for so many devastated by the Carr Fire storm.

The Carr Fire is about 3 to 5 miles out from our part of Lakehead now and if the winds stay favorable we should continue to be OK at the home front per CalFire mtg tonight.  A new fire "Hat Fire" started in the Burney area tonight close to where some family works.  Another fire started 15 miles or so East of us near the Hirtz Bay location on Shasta Lake.  A campground transient started another fire near Lake Elsinore in SoCal that has 20,000 homes evacuated.  We remain in pretty heavy smoke.  One trucker posted that there was smoke from up in Oregon all the way thru CA on a recent run...I know the smoke is making it's way to several adjacent States.

We were evacuated at the LMat for a week and it took another week of hustling to get the store open again.  We installed a double layer of sponge type medium in the swamp coolers and plan to keep them serviced to help knock down the smoke.  No complaints from customers...but our customers don't complain a lot.  Smoke here and there is the least of the worries at this juncture.  Things are so busy for Ins Co's I won't even meet the first adjuster until late next week.

    Les,
I feel your pain, woke up to a nice layer of ash here this morning. I took a video yesterday of some of the smoke from the 462 fires we have burning her in B.C., who knows, maybe its smoke from California!

It is great to see Les in a somewhat better position to be able to post again!

It is still vivid in my mind some of the "touch n go" of the 500 year flooding in North Dakota back in 2011.  I remember having our 60" TV on nonstop locked on the moment to moment updating for the locals.  Maybe TVs in our laundromats can actually serve a worthwhile purpose from time to time.

Richard:  That looks like some superior drone skills at work.  We have about a 1/4 mile visibility down Salt Creek from the house today...it varies day to day depending on the winds. I see the fire activity up your way from the SF Chronicle on line fire map.

Mike:  TV can definitely serve a purpose at times.  Nowadays, we are getting non-stop app info updates from the local news stations.

Paulie:  Thank you sir.  The fires have so far essentially burned a horse shoe around our immediate home town proper   The CalFire crews ended their dozer work in the local hills and recently started back fire operations so lots of fire and smoke visible from the home.  None of the back fires have gone out of control, so far so good.

We are in the process of related insurance claims for several properties.  This will take some time as usual....especially with the number of claims in the area.
