Washer hard wire vs. plug

  • 1.  Washer hard wire vs. plug

I occasionally have an issue with people lifting the bulkhead cover and unplugging a machine to charge their phone.  Of course they never replace the plug in the socket.    Considering hard wiring the 120v hard mounts.  Considering the top loads too but since I have to pull them out sometimes I think it would be a pain.

    Pro's, Cons, other options?

Why not add convenience outlets for your customers.  In this day and age people expect that.

    Brian,

It is unattended and I would have non-customers hanging around again.

    Use Nema Type twist-lok plugs

Legrand Pass and Seymour Turnlok 30 Amp 250-Volt Locking Plug
    Available in 3 prong 120V

Reliance Controls Twist Lock 30-Amp 125/250-Volt PlugAnd 4 Prong for 220V

    Instant solution !

I use them wherever I need them.

Plus they are a Legal Safety Disconnect in case of Emergencies.

I do hardwire as well, when the situation calls for it.

    John M,

I guess with the captive waiting audience at airports they actually have a revenue stream from the use of outlets & usb ports:

    http://www.linden-electronics.com/products/Coin_Charging.html

The reason why this one caught my eye is that it appears to be using the exact same DG600F coin mech that I have been successfully testing for about a year & a half.

Do you think there is any chance that could work in NYC or in some laundromats & help solve that specific unplugging problem & yield a profit besides?  I am not sure how expensive that phone charging station is but it might be something that would not need any maintenance once bought?

Had no idea these plugs were available. Thanks

Michael, that may be cost prohibitive for my little store.

Wonder if there is a device with a key pad that you could type in code to power the outlet for a period of time. I could just give the regulars the code.

Or to simplify, install hidden wall timer.

    John,
Install this at $ 9.75 each. That will do it for you.

Google "outlet locking cover". Tons of solutions out there.

I have locks like that on the vending machine.  Will have to compare cost to the other outlets.

Would like to offer customers hot outlets while not encouraging non-customer visits.
