1.  Important message for Chicago Owners

Posted 28 days ago

As you are no doubt aware, the City of Chicago has begun implementing its large tax on city water.  The first tax of 7.5% was put in place in March and will continue to climb over the next 4 years until it reaches a 30% rate.  Keep in mind that is does not take into account the regular annual increases that will be occurring.  The Illinois Coin Laundry Association has been hard at work trying to get laundromats exempted from this tax and I am happy to announce an ordinance was introduced on which will allow for a full refund of the tax paid by our businesses now and in the future.  While getting the ordinance introduced is a giant leap forward, it is not the end of the effort.  This ordinance has been assigned to the Finance Committee and it will be necessary to lobby the members of that committee to make sure it becomes law.  As of now only a handful of owners have been willing to contribute to this effort, and we are out of money to proceed.  I am asking all of you in the business to contribute to the effort.  If you take a look at the cost of the tax on your most recent water bill, please consider contributing at least that amount to our effort.  Together we can save our industry millions of dollars a year by getting this ordinance passed.  Please go to www.coinlaundry.org/ilcla  or fill out the enclosed form and make a donation today before it's too late.  Please also contact your Alderman and ask them to support this ordinance.  Any questions, please call Paul Hansen at 773 617-0929.

Wow!!!!  GREAT work on your part Paul!!!

These big cities are a never ending black hole for taxes.....Glad you got that done.

Here in NYC, we no longer have an association, so we are very vulnerable.

No CLA organization in NJ either.  I am guessing that the market saturation has turned most owners off from sharing information with others.  I think that is sad, but what can you do.

I hope CLA can offer a grant.  This could become a cancer that other cities or states decide to implement.  Stop it at the source!  The first fight is the most important one.
Good luck!
