There are only two real options. The first is the Alliance produced brands of Speed Queen, Huebsch, Ipso, Econo-Wash and Primus.

The second is the recently released models of Whirlpool and Whirlpool owned Maytag.

Lots of labels stuck on two basic designs. Differences? The Alliance models have been around for years. The new Maytags consume less water than Alliance models according to factory brochures.

I think the distributor costs are about the same so I would suggest you shop around and see who's willing to offer the best deal.

The Whirlpool/Maytag tops I have in one store do use less water, by only filling 40% high in the drum. When someone pushes the stop button so they can open the lid, they see the low water and tell my attendant it's broken. This happens every week.

Ill be removing those last 3 soon and bringing them to the gun range for proper utilization.

I agree you do need to replace top loaders. But not with top load machines! You need to look closely at installing hard mount front load machines. You will thank me down the road. Yes you will.

We started out taking over a small store with 12 Top Loads.  Working a master plan over several years, the near finish product left us with 4 Top Loads of 21 Washers.  There are some fairly good reasons to have a few Top Loads in our market.

From the original 12 to the first new set of 4 TL, and the second new set of 4 TL, all have been Speed Queen with good success in general.  About every 5 to 6 years or when the first major repairs come into play, we sell them and buy new.

I recall talk of an old style Maytag that was a workhorse and some folks still use and market them from what I understand.

I have one of those 35 year old Maytag washers in my home. Still works great. Cleans way better than the 20 LB front loader I had in here for a short time. Yes, I set it to FREE.
In the early 70's they made a great commercial machine. Other than a few pressure switches they went on and on and on.

    Curt,

My wife uses a 25 - 30 year old Maytag coin operated top loader here at home.  It's so old the the outer tub rusted out last year and I epoxied it up.  It was in my laundromat for a few years prior to bringing it home.   It's priced at a quarter.  They don't make top loaders like that anymore.

Yes...those original Maytag top loaders were the best on the market back in the day.

Did you guys know that they sold 2 different sizes back then? I regular size and also a "deep tub" design.
Aside from the size of the tubs, they were essentially the same machine.

    Paulie,

Yes, in the 1970s, Maytag made the 12 lb. model and the 16 lb. model.  I owned both at one time or another.  I  only bought Maytag top loaders back in the day when Maytag made them in Newton, Iowa.

I was talking to our mechanic from the old days and he reminded me that the Apt's we built in the late 60's and early 70's had a laundry room that had Maytag washers and dryers installed.  They were in play for a bit over 35 years, not bad at all for an apartment laundry facility.

We replaced those units because we were doing a project on Camp Pendleton where we were removing around a hundred washer and electric dryer sets.  We ran gas mains and branches to replace them with new SQ washer- gas dryer replacements.  Got a great deal on quantity pricing.

Yes those were the models I referred to in my previous post. My family we sold tons of those units at our retail store. Along with the commercial, or quarter, units. They were fantastic.
